Celebrate Spring at the Maricopa County Fair

Spring is a fantastic time of year for getting out with family and friends to enjoy the mild weather. One of the best springtime traditions is a county fair, and Arizona hosts a pretty fun one. The Maricopa County Fair takes place April 12-16 at the Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix, and it’s the perfect kickoff to the warm season.

Carnival Amusements

One popular attraction you cannot miss is the Butler carnival. With nearly 40 exciting rides, the carnival is the heartbeat of the fair. There is a good variety of rides, including kid-friendly ones. Thrill seekers will love the heart-thumping Starship 3000, Evolution, Ring of Fire and Vertigo. If you’re happier being closer to the ground, the bumper cars, carousel or circus-themed fun house are perfect options.

Agriculture is a focal point at the fair, and it’s a big part of its history. You’ll come across many interesting exhibits, including the biggest livestock display in Arizona. Even young children participate in the youth livestock shows, and they have the chance to win awards and scholarships. In addition to the livestock attraction, there are informative demonstrations, dog shows and farm tours.

Four stages of entertainment at the fair provide a nice break whenever you need it. At the Main Stage, you’ll find talented singers, bands, dance teams and even skilled martial artists. Children love the County Fair Stage, where traditional fair games are held. If you really want to relax, head to the Christian Radio Stage, kick back and listen to some beautifully inspirational music.

No fair would be complete without some tasty treats. There is traditional carnival fare such as corn dogs and fried Twinkies, but there are also unique offerings. Have you ever heard of deep fried coffee? You can try some at the fair! Be sure to grab a flaming hot turkey leg and sample some of Steve’s Smoking BBQ as well.
