Get Ready to Let Your Inner Geek Shine
Downtown Phoenix will be a little more colorful this Memorial Day weekend. Phoenix Comicon, the annual fan-fest held at the Phoenix Convention Center, takes place May 25-28, and it promises to be astounding. The pop-culture-based extravaganza features a mind-blowing assortment of comic book creators, artists and authors as well as movie, television and book characters.
Meet and Greet Your Favorites
The main draw of this convention is the gathering of celebrities from the entertainment industry. Numerous genres are covered, including sci-fi, steampunk and anime. There is something for everyone, so chances are you won’t leave disappointed. All you need to do is grab your camera and autograph book, find your favorite god of geekdom, and live the fantasy.
Keep Your Fan Antennae Up
The fun part of Comicon is the hunt. Stars are scattered throughout the convention at exhibits and booths, but they can also be spotted in the crowd. Many actors and writers hold special panels as well. During these discussions, they talk about virtually anything. This is your chance to get the dirt, so take advantage and ask questions.
Do Some People Watching
Thousands of fans in the pop culture universe attend Comicon, including some pretty dedicated cosplayers. Creativity is abundant, and the costumes are often so over the top, you’ll think you’re walking across the pages of a book or script. This is a fairly kid-friendly event, and little ones tend to really enjoy the flamboyant characters.
Unite with Other Superfans
If you’re one of the diehards, you’ll be in great company at this convention. Socializing is practically a requirement, and there are plenty of opportunities to chat about your favorite wizard, superhero, zombie or space alien. While you’re mingling, you should also check out the collectibles and memorabilia for sale. You might just discover some hidden treasures in your favorite genre.
Entrance badges to Phoenix Comicon cost $20 to $45 depending on the day, and children’s badges are $10. You can also buy a full event badge for $65, which allows entrance on all four days. Why not make a long weekend of it and stay at Best Western Plus Scottsdale Thunderbird Suites? You’ll be just few minutes from the convention center, but once you enter those showroom doors, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into another universe.
Thank you for taking the time to read. Have a great day 🙂
