Scottsdale Does October Right

Fall Festivals and Halloween Events in Scottsdale

Autumn is a busy time of year for the Scottsdale area. Locals can venture outdoors without steaming in the sun, and visitors seem to arrive in droves to witness the end of summer scenery. There is plenty to do during this season, but some events are essential if you’re the type who counts down to fall in January.

Bacon and Beer Classic

Oktoberfests have nothing on this lip-smacking event. Taking place Oct. 7 at Scottsdale Stadium, the celebration involves sampling dozens of scrumptiously unique bacon-based dishes while quenching your thirst on craft ales and ciders. Along with the meat and suds, you can enjoy a game of giant Jenga, enter a bacon-eating contest or participate in a bungee run.

Salt River Fields Spooktacular Balloon Festival

Approximately two dozen brightly lit hot-air balloons will dazzle the Scottsdale complex Oct. 27 and 28. From 5-10 p.m., you can stroll between the multicolored inflatables while munching on delicious fair food and listening to live music. The family-friendly event includes a fireworks display, a haunted trail, tethered balloon rides and a pre-Halloween candy distribution for little ones.

MacDonald’s Ranch Pumpkin Fest

October and pumpkins go together like milk and cookies, so this festival is a must for your fall to-do list. The event takes place the entire month of October from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Your $10 entrance ticket includes a fun hayride, pumpkin picking, a kid-friendly hay maze, gold panning, a quaint petting zoo and loads more.

The Haunted Graveyard

If you prefer shrieking your way through the Halloween season, gather your courage and head to the Haunted Graveyard on Valley Vista Dr. Starting at 6:30 p.m. from Oct. 27 to 31, you can brave the ghoulish terrors of this creepy property. Explore the dark, fog-filled maze of rooms while chilling organ music plays and inexplicable occurrences rattle your nerves.

No matter what type of fall activity you enjoy, you’ll find super fun options in Scottsdale. From kid-focused and mellow to thrilling adult excursions, this desert town has it all.

  1. It most certainly does! I can’t wait for fall to hit here. October is one of the best months. Gorgeous weather and always so much going on. Can’t wait to add some new things to the list this year.
